●Soto Zen sect Daikozan Anrakuji Temple
Anrakuji Temple was founded in 1586 by the monk Chōan Kyū. The temple enshrines a statue of Amida Nyorai, which is said to have been created by Gyōki Bosatsu.
Before the temple was founded, it is said that the statue was moved from Kōzan-ji Temple in Aono to escape the flames of war during the battle between the Oda and Imagawa clans in 1537. In 1845, during the tenure of the 11th abbot, Tokuhō, the main hall was rebuilt. In 1935, the Kōbō-daishi Hall was reconstructed.
Within the temple grounds, there is a sacred site called Hon-Shikoku O-Suna-Fumi, which is modeled after the geography of Shikoku. At its center, there is a thirteen-story pagoda and a statue of Shugyo Daishi. In spring, cherry blossoms bloom, and from late June to early August, lotus flowers can be seen.
The transom of the main hall features a dynamic carving of a dragon, created by Nakano Jin'emon Shigetomi, a sculptor of the Tachikawa school.
